Parking space: The parking space should be dry, well ventilated, and frost-free to provide optimum protection for the vehicle. A garage is ideal for this purpose, as it offers consistent conditions and additional protection from the elements.

Cleaning: To clean the vehicle, it should be thoroughly washed and polished to effectively prevent rust and corrosion. In addition, careful rubber care is recommended to ensure that seals and rubber parts remain supple and do not become brittle.

Check operating fluids: Operating fluids should be thoroughly checked: The engine oil is changed, and coolant, brake fluid, and other fluids are checked and maintained within their prescribed intervals to ensure the vehicle is in good working order.

Fuel: The fuel tank should be filled completely, unless it is a plastic tank, in order to prevent condensation and the resulting corrosion inside the tank.

Battery: The battery should be connected to a maintenance device and checked regularly to ensure that it remains fully functional during storage and does not become deeply discharged.

Tire pressure: Tire pressure should be increased to the maximum recommended value so that the tires retain their shape during storage and damage is avoided.

Preventing flat spots: To prevent flat spots, tire protectors should be used to ensure that the tires are evenly relieved and permanently protected.

Ventilation: For adequate ventilation, windows should be left slightly open to allow moisture to escape and prevent mold growth indoors.

Cover: A breathable vehicle cover should be used to protect the vehicle while allowing any moisture that builds up to escape reliably.

Additional theft protection: For additional theft protection, we recommend using a GPS tracker, which allows you to reliably locate the vehicle at any time.

Say goodbye to corrosion: To prevent corrosion in the exhaust system, a cloth plug should be used to prevent moisture from entering the exhaust system.

Release the brakes: The brakes should remain released by not applying the handbrake. Instead, engage a gear and, on steep slopes, use wheel chocks to secure the vehicle.

Anzing – After the Anzing Fire Department's vintage vehicle suffered serious transmission damage in June, it has now been repaired thanks to numerous donations from the Anzing community and support from the Anzing-based company WALLNER Classic.
June 19, which was Corpus Christi this year, was a bitter day for the Anzing Fire Department.

On the way back from the Bavarian Vintage Fire Engine Meet in Wattenweiler, Swabia, the Anzing Fire Department's vintage “LF8” fire engine suffered serious transmission damage.

Was this to be the end of the fire engine, which had been owned by the Anzinger fire department since 1963?

No, said the team that had spent hundreds of hours over the past few years
volunteering to restore the vehicle. Most recently, they had even got the centrifugal fire pump
working again, meaning that the vehicle could still be used to fight fires

Stefan Belmer and honorary commander Josef Reither, initiated a fundraising campaign for
the vehicle.

At the fire department's open house and in the Anzinger Gemeindeblatt newspaper,
a call was made for donations to repair the vintage vehicle.
And indeed, numerous monetary donations were received.
In addition, there was a stroke of luck: the WALLNER Classic company has been based in the Anzinger industrial park for several years.
It specializes in the restoration of Mercedes-Benz vintage vehicles.

LF8—also a Mercedes-Benz. The experts' initial diagnosis was devastating for the vintage car enthusiasts at the Anzing fire department: the transmission was completely destroyed and beyond repair, and a complete transmission replacement was the only option.

But there was also good news: WALLNER Classic still had a replacement transmission
for exactly this type of vehicle in stock. And it got even better: WALLNER Classic offered to carry out the repair at a “friendly price” that could be covered by the donations received.

“We are delighted that we were able to give something back to the town of Anzing,” said managing director Rouven Genz when the vehicle was handed back to the fire department.

Their commander, Tobias Bönte, was impressed: "Without the generosity of the people of Anzing and the helpfulness of the Wallner company, the transmission damage would probably have been the end
of our vintage car."

The fire department is proud and grateful that the vehicle is now fully operational again at the Anzing fire station just a few weeks after
the damage, according to Bönte.

Summer brings with it many facets: sun, heat, wind - and sometimes rain. For classic cars, this means one thing above all: flexibility.

Even though classic vehicles prefer to roll along dry tarmac, a brief rain shower won’t keep them off the road. What matters most is how they are cared for afterwards. While we might enjoy retreating to a warm bath after a wet day, classic cars appreciate fresh air, gentle attention, and dry conditions.

These five tried-and-tested care tips will help prevent a rain shower from causing permanent damage:

1. create a dry environment

The vehicle should be parked in a well-ventilated garage or under a carport. Open the doors, trunk and glove compartment to allow air to circulate.

2. dry gently

Using a clean, soft microfiber cloth, carefully dab water from exposed areas such as beading, trim strips or chrome transitions.

3. ventilate and clear out the interior

Remove carpets, floor mats and trunk lining and dry separately. The soft top should remain closed until it is completely dry to prevent the formation of mold and rust.

4. check electrics

Check fuses, plug connections and sensitive components. If necessary, a spray of contact spray will help.

5. protect cavities & underbody

Treat hard-to-reach areas with cavity wax or preservative grease to reliably prevent rust.

These measures keep the classic in top form even after wet rides.

The workshop focused on important steps that should not be forgotten before the first ride in spring. What steps are necessary to get the vehicle ready for the season and ensure a smooth start? These and many other questions were answered in detail.

The practical support from our TÜV expert for main inspections and emissions tests was particularly exciting. He gave the participants valuable tips for the upcoming general inspection and used various vehicle models on the lifting platform to show what is important for the next general inspection. This enabled the participants to see directly how to recognize typical weak points and which tests are particularly important during the general inspection.

The workshop provided an excellent opportunity not only to prepare for the start of the season, but also to refresh their own knowledge of the technology and maintenance of classic cars. We would like to thank all participants and are already looking forward to the next exchange!

You can look forward to an exciting morning centred around the technology of various Mercedes-Benz classic cars. In addition to topics such as oil changes and lubrication service and technical details on brakes, carburettors and ventilation, the workshop also includes various vehicle optimizations such as the electric auxiliary fan, the heat protection strip and disc brakes. The insight into our ‘engine corner’ will be particularly exciting, where we will provide an overview of various vehicle components such as the engine block, camshaft, connecting rods and pistons.

With a well-prepared vehicle storage, the start of the coming season is usually even better. For this reason, in our last workshop of 2025, we will show you some of the steps of winterising classic cars. There are also a few other points on the programme: vehicle washing and various care options such as vehicle polishing, leather care and impregnation will also be part of the workshop. We will also be joined by an expert who will introduce us to the art of car valeting.

On Saturday, 19 October 2024, we started at 9.30 a.m. in our WALLNERWERK with a small reception including refreshments before we began with the first point on the agenda of our workshop.

We started with tips & tricks on vehicle storage and the end of the season and, in addition to battery maintenance and vehicle covers, we also focused on the topic of tyre protectors. As driving pleasure can be spoilt by an imbalance in the tyres even after a short period of standing, the use of tyre protectors, such as Flexigel® tyre protectors, is very helpful.

FTC tyre cushions reduce flat spots on the tyres. Equal distribution of the vehicle weight relieves the strain on the tyres, as the tyre protector provides ideal seating thanks to the special Flexigel® filling, which optimally adapts to the tyre shape.

During our three-hour workshop, we also looked at vehicle washing and polishing. Albert Tischer from Glanzwerk87 gave us a detailed insight into the various aspects of correct vehicle washing and gave tips on what to pay particular attention to. After a short introduction and demonstration of vehicle polishing, our participants were even able to try out the polishing machine for themselves.

We also focussed on technology and looked at a few technical details on our lifting platforms using various vehicle models, such as a Porsche 911 G-Model and a Mercedes-Benz 190 SL. The insight into our engine and machine area, where we exhibited an engine and components such as a crankshaft, was also particularly exciting.

Then, we continued our tour along country roads with little traffic to Feldkirchen-Westerham, Weyarn and Warngau to Dietramszell. Here we stopped for lunch at the Landgasthof Baiernrain and enjoyed another great view of the mountains with schnitzel, roast pork, salad and more. Afterwards, we made our way back to our WALLNERWERK in comfort.

We were accompanied on this tour by fantastic classic cars of various models and model series. Among them were the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL and a 280 SL Pagoda, a Jaguar E-Type and a Mercedes-Benz 300E as well as vehicles from the W111, W114 and W116 series.
