The optimized 190 SL engine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Performance Upgrade for the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Engine<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For drivers who want to give their vehicle more power, we have developed a performance-optimized engine for the <strong>Mercedes-Benz 190 SL.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This design significantly improves power and torque\u2014without altering the vehicle\u2019s character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the outside, the engine remains stock. The technical optimization works on the inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many owners of a Mercedes-Benz 190 SL would like a little more power and torque for their classic car. The original <strong>190 SL engine, type 121-921<\/strong>, is rated at <strong>105 hp (77 kW)<\/strong> by the manufacturer. However, testing on a dynamometer often reveals that many of these engines actually produce only <strong>86 to 89 hp<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>More Power for the 190 SL Engine<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The base is a five-bearing engine that runs more smoothly and remains structurally identical to the original engine. To increase power, the crankshaft is replaced with a version featuring a longer stroke<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, connecting rods and pistons from the tuning sector are used. This results in increased displacement and higher torque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Further measures:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Modification of the flywheel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Installation of a disc spring clutch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete, precise balancing of the engine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The disc spring clutch is easier to operate and is better suited for the higher torque of the optimized engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Revised cylinder head and carburetor<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The cylinder head of the 190 SL engine is also extensively revised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The following components are used:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>larger valves with slimmer stems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>modified valve springs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a camshaft tuned for the 190 SL<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A distributor with map-controlled ignition ensures more precise ignition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Solex PHH44 carburetors are fitted with new jets to optimally balance power and drivability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Deliberately moderate compression<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The compression ratio remains at 8.8:1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While a higher compression ratio would be technically possible, it would shorten the engine\u2019s service life and impair its smooth operation.
