Air Conditioning for the Ponton: Classic Comfort for Tropical Temperatures

A special project recently made its way from our showroom to our workshop: a Mercedes-Benz Ponton Coupé that will soon be on the road in Cambodia. While the vehicle’s elegant lines and classic charm are to remain unchanged, the new owner wants to add a modern touch of comfort - air conditioning.

This is precisely the challenge we are currently tackling. Retrofitting an air conditioning system in a classic vehicle is far more than simply installing modern technology. Our goal is to integrate the system in such a way that it blends harmoniously with the original appearance of the Ponton Coupé. Today’s technology should remain as invisible as possible and preserve the vehicle’s character.

Demand for such solutions has risen noticeably in recent years. Just recently, we retrofitted an air conditioning system for a Mercedes-Benz 280 S from the W116 series, which is now on the road in Miami. We also equipped a Mercedes-Benz 280 SE W116 with a modern air conditioning system for a long-standing regular customer. These projects demonstrate that classic driving pleasure and contemporary comfort can be perfectly combined.

We regularly install such climate control retrofits in other classic Mercedes-Benz model series, including the Pagoda (W113), the W108 and W109 series, and the W123. Each solution is individually tailored to the vehicle, the interior, and the desired aesthetic to preserve the character of the classic car.

In the coming weeks, we will document the individual steps and gladly take you behind the scenes. All the way through to the finished installation, we will show how classic elegance and modern driving comfort can be combined.

Stay tuned and join us on this extraordinary project.
